The fish-men, charcoal and graphite on tracing paper
Making drawings based on some of the early 20thC photographs I found in the Marine Institute of Research, Bergen. Not sure what I will do with them...or where they will take me.. but they are beautiful photographs full of movement, men throwing, gutting and slashing fish, whilst beneath their feet fish writhe and gasp, so it's sometimes difficult to know if what I'm drawing is fish or fisherman..

In the unfinished drawing below the sea between the two boats is a seething mass of fish. Is this still the case for the 21st C fisherman?

Looks like very nice and interesting drawings.
Yes, when fishing vessels haul in the purse seine e.g. around schools of herring, you see a “seething mass of fish” which nowadays are pumped onboard the vessel with little use of manpower .

    Cheers, Einar
